Maggie Lancaster, assistant editor

Maggie Lancaster has joined the staff of Railway Track & Structures as assistant editor. She will report directly to Mischa Wanek-Libman, RT&S editor.

Maggie graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism with a concentration in magazine writing and editing and a minor in public relations. She has interned with Fashion Scout Daily, Brand Connections and Flats Chicago. Her written work can be found on Dormify, USA Today College, ChicagoTalks and Literally Darling.

During her time at Columbia, she excelled in her classes while holding executive positions in many classes. Maggie balanced a full-time job and full-time class schedule; she graduated with honors in December 2015.

Metra puts Safety Train to work

Metra's Board of Directors along with agency officials sent the Metra Safety Train on an excursion to "highlight the numerous ways that Metra strives to operate the safest possible railroad for its customers, employees, local schoolchildren and the public."

Alpenglow Rail LLC completed its acquisition of VIP Rail LLC. This acquisition is a first for the Denver-based shortline rail business, which is backed by private equity firm Stonecourt Capital.

Demolition of the Schenectady Station is underway. The new, fully accessible rail station, which will connect travelers to places like New York City and Niagara Falls, has a projected cost of $23 million.

AECOM to acquire Shimmick Construction

AECOM is set to acquire Shimmick Construction. While the acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, the companies expect to close in AECOM's fiscal fourth quarter.

Caltrans has allocated $34.5 million in funding from the Low Carbon Transit Operations Program that will benefit 125 California projects.
