Work on Caltrain's Grade Crossing Improvement Program, which will enhance safety at railroad crossings in San Mateo County, continues. The current projects at Encinal, Glenwood and Ravenswood avenues in Menlo Park, Calif., will take place August 23-27 between the hours of 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. Throughout the project at least one lane of the street will remain open. Flagmen will direct traffic and pedestrians around the construction. The work is part of a larger program to improve grade crossings in San Mateo County.

Work continues on a $2.8-million
project to add additional signals to the Caltrain signal system. The work will take
place in Redwood City August 24-28 between the hours of 8 p.m. and 4 a.m.

A $2.1-million project to
improve the radio communications system that operates the signals and switches
on the railroad tracks is under way. The project will add a second radio
channel, which will increase the system’s capacity. Work will take place August
26 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at several locations near the Diridon
and Tamien stations in San Jose.

August 23 -27, crews will weld
and grind the switches and replace crossties on the tracks between the Bayshore
and Millbrae stations. Caltrain will temporarily close the Fair Oaks Lane
railroad crossing in Atherton over the weekend to reconstruct the crossing and
adjacent track. Crews also will repave the street. Work will take place from 8
p.m., August 21 until 6 a.m., August 24. Traffic will be detoured via
Middlefield Road and El Camino Real to Fifth and Watkins avenues. Flagmen will
direct traffic and pedestrians around the construction.

On August28, worn asphalt,
rails, ties and ballast will be replaced on the tracks near the San Jose
station.
