Covell underpass project extended

Drivers waiting for the new $6.1-million Covell Road underpass in Edmond, Okla., will have to wait awhile longer, local media report. Sherwood Construction, contractor for the project, has requested another 140 calendar days to finish the job, which started in September 2008, Edmond City Manager Larry Stevens said.

"The result is that
March is now the realistic time frame for completion," Stevens said.

The joint state
Transportation Department and city of Edmond project was originally scheduled
to be completed in mid-November. The contractor is entitled to the extension
because rainy weather and delays moving the BNSF tracks held up completion of
the project, Stevens said.
