WMATA sets January weekend track maintenance schedule

In January, in addition to the Martin Luther King, Jr., Holiday weekend closure of the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metrorail station on the Red Line, Metro in Washington, D.C., will replace fasteners, make tunnel repairs, and make repairs to a rail switch that will help ensure reliable Metrorail service. Customers should expect travel delays during the weekends of Jan. 8 to 10, Jan. 15 to 18, and Jan. 29 to Jan. 31.
Jan. 8-10.
Red Line Metrorail
customers traveling between the Medical Center and Grosvenor-Strathmore
Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes to their travel time because
Metro will replace rail fasteners and make tunnel repairs. Trains will share
one track between these locations the entire weekend.
This portion of work on
the Red Line between the Medical Center and Grosvenor-Strathmore Metrorail
stations is part of a larger multi-year Red Line rehabilitation project that
will run through 2013.
Blue Line Metrorail
customers traveling between the Morgan Boulevard and Largo Town Center
Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes to their travel time because
Metro will conduct switch maintenance at the Largo Town Center Metrorail
station Jan. 8-10 and Jan. 15-18.
The Grosvenor-Strathmore
Metrorail station on the Red Line will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15,
through closing (midnight) on Monday, Jan. 18, while Metro undertakes a major
track rehabilitation project between the White Flint and Medical Center
Metrorail stations throughout the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday weekend. Normal
service will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 19, at 5 a.m.
Throughout the Martin
Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend, Red Line trains will be split in two
sections, the first between the Shady Grove and White Flint Metrorail stations,
and the second between the Medical Center and Glenmont Metrorail stations.
