Brightline is continuing essential work on its Orlando extension with train testing in Indian River County having commenced April 1, 2023, with trains traveling up to 79 mph.
The signal and track cutover work is integrating a new second railroad track into the existing corridor and span railroad crossings in Vero Beach, Oslo, and Indrio, a release said.
Flaggers will be stationed at crossings through April 8 at 7 p.m. while the new rail signal system is being commissioned, and train testing at speeds of up to 79 mph are scheduled along the route.
Brightline said the agency has made safety improvements at all of its 156 railroad crossings along the 129-mile corridor. The improvements vary per crossing, but may include new crossing gates, signal systems, pedestrian gates, pavement markings and roadway profiles, a release said. Where trains operate at 110 mph, crossings have quad gates or medians installed to promote driver safety.
