SacRT to Temporarily Close 59th Street Station for Low-Floor Station Modification

The Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) will be closing 59th Street Station Saturday, Feb. 4 and Sunday, Feb. 5 due to construction efforts for the low-floor station modification of the station, part of the agency’s Light Rail Modernization Project.
According to SacRT, the closure will impact light rail travel on the Gold Line, which will be replaced by bus service between the 29th Street and Power Inn light rail stations from the start of morning service on Saturday, Feb. 4 through end of service day on Sunday, Feb. 5. Normal light rail service will resume on Monday, Feb. 6.
Construction crews will continue work on the 59th Street Station between Monday, Feb. 6 and Friday, March 3. However, this is not expected to impact light rail service on the Gold Line or the 59th Street Station.
During construction at the 59th Street Station, the Fare Vending Machines and Connect Card readers will not be available for use until Friday, March 3.
59th Street Station is the first light rail station that will be modified. After this station is successfully completed, SacRT says additional stations will be temporarily closed in phases. The station modifications are one part of the Light Rail Modernization Project, which also include adding a passing track to provide 15-minute service to Folsom area stations and the purchase of new low-floor light rail vehicles.
