Kevin Corbett will serve as the next executive director for New Jersey Transit (NJ Transit) following a unanimous vote by the Board of Directors supporting the appointment.

The decision took place during a Board of Directors meeting, and Corbett will start in his new role effective Feb. 19.

“Kevin is taking on one of the toughest jobs in New Jersey – turning NJ Transit around and restoring it as a world-class transportation agency that our commuters can rely on,” said New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy. “Every New Jerseyan who takes the train or bus every day, and the thousands of employees who show up for work, deserves visionary leadership committed to getting this system right. Kevin’s confirmation signals that we have begun the difficult process of rebuilding NJ Transit and, in time, regaining commuters’ trust in the system.”

Corbett thanked Gov. Murphy and the public transportation system’s Board of Directors for the opportunity to serve in his new role, officials said.

“I look forward to working with the dedicated men and women of NJ Transit in restoring the transportation system to the national leader it once was, providing safe and reliable service and boosting economic development in New Jersey,” Corbett said.

Previously, Corbett has served as vice president, Cross Services at AECOM, where NJ Transit said he worked on projects and was Principal-In-Charge of or actively served in a management role such as Moynihan Station Phase one, Amtrak’s Gateway Program, Second Avenue Subway – Phase one, Penn Station Critical Improvements, and other regional restoration projects.

Corbett has also managed global marine and freight business for DMJM+HARRIS, an AECOM company, in addition to work for other AECOM subsidiaries.

Officials also noted Corbett currently serves on the executive committee of the Regional Plan Association and is co-chair of its transportation committee. He is also on the board of the Maritime Association of the Port of New York & New Jersey as president, serves the Tri-State Transportation Campaign and is chairman of the New York League of Conservation Voters.

An alumnus of Georgetown University, Corbett also serves as a Blue & Gold Officer for the U.S. Naval Academy.
