Dewberry to serve as LIRR double track project lead designer
Written by Kyra Senese, Managing EditorDewberry will serve as the lead designer on a combination design-bid-build and design-build team for the L.K. Comstock & Company, Inc.'s $66 million installation of a second track for Long Island Rail Road (LIRR).
The project is set to expand the LIRR Ronkonkoma Branch from Farmingdale Station about a mile west of the Central Islip Station, Dewberry said. L.K. Comstock & Company is a subsidiary of RailWorks Corporation.
Dewberry said the expansion of a second track on the Ronkonkoma Branch will allow for a higher capacity during peak and off-peak hours and accommodate existing and future ridership needs.
The design-build portion of the project includes the addition of two new stations. The firm’s work at the Wyandanch Station entails designing two 1,020-foot-long platforms, a new pedestrian bridge with elevators in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, canopy structures and a snow melting system installed in the platforms.
The Pinelawn Station will see the design of two 192-foot platforms, passenger shelters, parking and additional on-site enhancements, officials said.
